FAQ
What is online Grooming?
Online grooming is when a person over the age of 18 contacts a child under the age of 16. It is this particular age because the legal age of consent is 16 years old. The grooming begins when the 18 year old forms a trusting relationship with the intention of later engaging in a sexual act. This can be done via mobile telephone, webcam or in person. The relationship starts online and then the rest in continued in person. The online groomers are known to spend weeks, months and even years communicating with a child to form a fully trusting relationship.
What is the risk of sending images of myself?
Sometimes people post pictures or send them. This could cause unwanted attention from people you don't know or people you do not want to be talking to. As soon as you post you image on the internet or send someone one, you have lost control of your image. Anyone could fake profiles with you pictures pretending to be you.
Why do parents need to get involved?
The internet needs to be a safe and enjoyable place for children and young people. Whether that communication, play, learn or work. Although with many new emerging technologies, the internet has also raised new areas of concern. Awareness by parents can help to educate and protect children and young people while they enjoy using the internet.
How can people have their personal information obtained?
Personal information can be obtained by making sure you have your privacy setting on everything. This will stop random people from adding you, taking your pictures and also tracking where you live or been from where you have been checked in to previously.
What are the risks when responding to emails?

What are the risks when using smart phone?
They may hack into your phone database and get information you don't want other people to know about. They may also get hold of your mobile phone number and might harass you by messaging you or calling you.
Parents and school
Teachers often get teacher training days where they get to train on different things what the school and counsel want them to learn. They will now and then learn about cyber safety by teaching them how to use the cyber button. The cyber button is something that is used for young people who are getting bullied online and want to report it to the police or the main people who control the cyber bully website. Most parents weren't aware of this button until these last 3 years as they have never been taught it or shown it by their children. Schools now provide a meeting to talk about the button or the updates to it etc. Most parents also use internet safety on their home computer whether that's blocking websites or viewing the history every now and then, just to keep an eye on them.

Who do we report it to?
Most schools have meetings and assembles to teach the kids and parents about the Cyber abuse and how to report it. There would be demonstrations on the board of showing you how to do it and why you should do it. Most people are too scared to press the button just incase it causes arguments with the person they have reported. After the meetings and assembles they would have a Q&A to make sure that all the kids and parents have the right understanding of what to do if it does happen.
We should report cyber bullying because the situation needs to be solved as soon as possible so then it doesn't escalate any further. If we know someone is going through cyber cullying they need to make sure they do something about it, encouraging them to tell someone or reporting it to someone. Make sure they have enough support around them so they feel confident to tell someone and that will help them to report it.
Safe Online habits
Online tips that would be useful for children and young people would be to have regular lessons in school to have them reminded about what they can do if they are in that situation. Trying to be safe online is not to share pictures that you don't want other people to see. This could be solved by for example Facebook, you are able to make private decisions on whether people can view you picture if they aren't friends with you and they cant like it. This will stop people from copying or using your pictures as there own. This can also stop them from seeing your post and seeing where you have previously been if you have checked in to somewhere as this could be tracked without you knowing. Make sure you know the people you are adding on social media as they random people you don't know could be tracking you when you check in or keeping your pictures and searching for you. Anything could happen. We should follow these steps to make sure that everyone is safe and won't be involved in anything they shouldn't or have to be in.
